Joe Mauer makes awesome diving catch, continues resurgence (Video)

Not a day goes by on this blog where we fail to show a great catch made by some Minnesota Twins player. Usually, it's by Ben Revere. But not always, as happened Tuesday night at Target Field. Joe Mauer, show us what you got!:

The big guy's still got it. Twins analyst Roy Smalley said he could tell, as it happened, that Mauer "had it all the way [and that] ... he knows he's going to catch that ball." And if you watch Mauer's eyes on the replay, it would seem to be so. It also was a great play because it prevented first baseman Justin Morneau from needing to dive and possibly jar his brain unnecessarily.

Here's what Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said:

Mauer has been, more or less, head and shoulders above other catchers this season. He's batting .333/.420/.461, and though he's not hitting home runs like he did that final season in the Metrodome when he won the batting average/on-base/slugging triple crown, he's pretty much the same ol' Joe — the best catcher in the league.

And to think, many of the hometown fans have booed Mauer this season and the previous one because of a perceived lack of ... something. He was hurt in 2011, and even banged up in 2010, and was criticized for not being worth the huge contract extension. But he obviously is worth it. So take those boos back, Twinned Cities! Just suck them up right into your lungs.

And as for Ryan Flaherty of the Orioles — that's why you don't bunt!
