Jackie Bradley Jr. extends hit streak to 28, halfway to Joe DiMaggio

Jackie Bradley Jr. didn't give us much time for drama Tuesday night. The Boston Red Sox outfielder extended his hit streak in the second inning, with a double off the Green Monster.

That means Bradley has now hit safely in 28 consecutive games, which is an impressive feat. But it's merely halfway to Joe DiMaggio's famous record of 56 straight games, which interestingly enough was also going right now 75 years ago. (You can relive it day-by-day on Big League Stew's Tumblr.)

Hitting 28 is significant not just because it's halfway to DiMaggio, but because it ties the 28-game streak from Nolan Arenado in 2014. Bradley will next be aiming to tie Denard Span, who went for 29 straight games in 2013. So he's chasing down all the recent-year bests.

Getting past 30 games is when things really start to get exciting. Only 47 times in baseball history has a player reached 31 straight games, the most recent being Andre Ethier in 2011. The closest challenger to DiMaggio in the past decade was Jimmy Rollins, who got to 38 games in 2005-2006.

Point being: Bradley Jr. still has a lot of hitting ahead of him if he's going to challenge DiMaggio.
