It's Force Friday and even MLB caps are joining the 'Star Wars' party

"Star Wars" hysteria, like Christmas, is hitting us waaaaaay before December.

You need only to venture to your local Target to get besieged by "Star Wars" products. Shopping online? Yep, they're all over the place there too. In fact, Friday was dubbed "Force Friday" because of well-planned roll out of "Star Wars" products ahead of the Dec. 18 release of "The Force Awakens."

And not even baseball is immune. New Era, the official cap kings, released these new "Star Wars" themed caps. They're like regular MLB caps with "Star Wars" plastered on 'em.

There are 27 caps that feature either Darth Vader, Boba Fett or a storm trooper on the bill. Fitting that the Yankees, the so-called Evil Empire, get Darth Vader, isn't it?

The three teams that don't appear to have a "Star Wars"-themed cap for sale are the Boston Red Sox, Colorado Rockies and Tampa Bay Rays. So if you're a fan of one of those teams, you can either be disappointed or happy to be spared, based on your opinion of the product. The caps sell for $37.99 each.

Our friends Kevin Kaduk and Jay Busbee talked about the onslaught of "Star Wars" merchadise on Friday's installment of the Grandstanding podcast, which you can listen to right here:

They agreed there are too many "Star Wars" goods in the marketplace, but it's really not a surprise considering Disney is behind the franchise now. In this case, does anybody need an MLB "Star Wars" cap? Does anybody want an MLB "Star Wars" cap?

We're not naive enough to think that these caps are aimed primarily at grown adults. Sure, a dude in his early 30s probably isn't going to walk around with a Tigers storm trooper cap, but a 13-year-old who's really into "Star Wars" and baseball might.

In that sense, these aren't the worst things in the world. Jar Jar Binks still holds that title, undisputed.
