After interviewing about 50 candidates for the position, the Akron RubberDucks, a Double-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians, announced Scott Foster as the team's public address announcer for the upcoming season. Less than two weeks after that press release, Foster was fired by the club after it was revealed he is a sex offender.

The Akron Beacon Journal was the first to discover Foster's history. In 2004, Foster was convicted of sending sexually explicit emails and making suggestive comments to two 13-year-old girls at A.I. Root Middle School. Foster was a teacher at the time.

He pleaded guilty to three felony counts of importuning. Foster spent 180 days in jail, and was required to perform community service and take part in sex counseling. Once released, Foster was labeled as a sex offender, and had to register his address for 10 years. That requirement ended in 2014.

A team spokesman confirmed that Foster was fired, but would not discuss whether the club performed a background check before making the hire, according to the Akron Beacon Journal.

“At this time, he’s no longer with the team, and that’s all the comment we have this time,” Liberman said.

The Journal also spoke to Foster on Monday. Foster had not yet received the news of his firing and said he was "totally shocked." Foster declined to make any other comments regarding the situation.
