Ike Davis hits 2nd grand slam of season against Reds — this one with broken bat

Now that he's with the Pittsburgh Pirates, slugger Ike Davis doesn't even require a properly functioning bat in order to go deep. Just make sure the Cincinnati Reds are the opponent and the bases are loaded — and he's good to go.

Davis connected for a grand slam for the second time this season against the Reds, despite breaking his bat on the swing, helping the Pirates take a lead and eventually win 6-5.

In his third game for the Pirates since coming over from the New York Mets in a trade this past week, Davis took right-hander Mike Leake into the first row in right field at PNC Park in the bottom of the fourth for a 4-2 lead. Davis has two home runs this season and both are slams.

On April 5 while still with the Mets and caught in a numbers game for playing time, Davis went deep against J.J. Hoover for a walk-off slam in the bottom of ninth at Citi Field. That one was a little more dramatic, and his bat stayed constituted for it.

Davis didn't have anything to do with the Bucs' tie-breaking rally in the ninth, but Hoover coincidentally picked up the loss again. It was a double win for Davis because he didn't have to wear the Mets' "Military Monday" camo uniforms.

Davis stands to get plenty of starts for the Pirates when a right-handed pitcher goes, so it's likely that he'll have more home runs this season that are not necessarily grand slams. But if he went deep, say, 15 times and all of them scored four runs a pop, the Bucs probably would take it. Even though it would be weird.

Or, the Pirates could start some kind of "Pay Ike Forward" game and trade him to a team that's coming up on the Reds schedule, to see if he can hit a grand slam for them, too. Atlanta Braves and Chicago Cubs, what will you give general manager Neal Huntington for Ike Davis?
