Cardinals fans aren't too happy that Jason Heyward picked the Cubs

Free-agent outfielder Jason Heyward spurned the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday, reportedly agreeing to join the rival Chicago Cubs for eight years on a $184 million contract. That's a lot of money, but our own Jeff Passan reports that Heyward turned down even more from other teams. Presumably one of them is the Cardinals, who had made re-signing Heyward one of their top priorities.

Cardinals fans were mad even before that last tidbit came out. They'll probably be even madder now. This summed up the mood of many Cardinals fans on Twitter after they heard Heyward chose to play his home games at Wrigley Field instead of Busch Stadium.

Cardinals fans are hardly the first fanbase to react this way when a player leaves in free agency. But they're the only team with a persistent Twitter account digging out the most wretched of their complainers. The @BestFansStLouis Twitter account is both entertaining and appalling, finding the worst of the worst Cardinal fans and holding them up for the world to see. Such as these people. (Be warned: There are far worse, with far more foul language if you look at the Twitter account).

Whoever runs @BestFansStLouis, today was his or her Christmas. Many of the horrific, grumbly and unfortunate things here were sleuthed out first by @BestFansStLouis. That being said, we'll readily admit that the account is so popular now that some people who are sending these tweets have to be doing it for the theater. That doesn't excuse what they say, because ultimately Heyward is a real person with real feelings. It's just a reminder that these are the same type of people who run on the field during a game — they want attention and don't mind looking like a fool in the process.

And some people, well, they just take these things like the break-up of a relationship. (Let's just ignore the fact that Heyward only played there one season after spending most of his career in Atlanta, OK?)

If you're feeling down on humanity right now (and we don't blame you), just know some nice fans do exist. On days like this, they get lost amongst the vile stuff, but they're there just the same.
