Gold medal gymnast throws out first pitch with unique style

The ceremonial first pitch before a baseball game is one of the sport’s great traditions, but as Forrest Gump might say, you never know what you’re going to get. Yes, we’re looking at you, 50 Cent.

Yang Qianmei, a gold-medal winning gymnast, had the honor before a game between the Chinatrust Brothers and the Lamigo Monkeys in the CPBL, the Taiwanese professional league, and it was unlike any first pitch we’ve seen.

Qianmei performed a routine prior to the actual first pitch, dancing with hoops and ribbons with beauty and grace. When the ball was handed to her, she had quite a windup before firing what appeared to be a strike. (If you want to skip the perfromance and just see the pitch, skip ahead to the 2:50 mark in the video).

There was so much going here it must have been a challenge for the catcher to remain focused and catch the ball. Sort of makes you wonder if Clayton Kershaw or Jake Arrieta could execute the double-step-over windup and how a hitter might react.
