David Price’s dog Astro receives assortment of gifts from Dodgers

Mariano Rivera isn't the only one receiving nice gifts on the road this season. With David Price's dog Astro making the cross-country trip for the Tampa Bay Rays first ever series at Dodger Stadium this weekend, the kind hosts decided to make the reigning Cy Young's canine feel right at home with a slew of gifts, including a couple new chew toys (aka a baseball and a Dodgers blue foam finger).

Of course you're probably wondering how this all came about. It certainly wasn't a surprise on Price's part or a random act of kindness by the Dodgers. The idea actually came about early in July when Price playfully suggested the Rays make a trade offer for Yasiel Puig, to which the Dodgers Twitter replied.

Earlier in the week Price confirmed that he accepted the deal on Astro's behalf by tweeting out a warning.

Thankfully, that wasn't necessary. And despite that warning (or threat) the Dodgers came through on their end of the bargain.

Yes, there's a Hello Kitty bobblehead in there, too. I'm sure Astro will take great pleasure in destroying that.

It almost makes me wonder where this gift package would rank among the highlights of Astro's life over the past 12 months. It would be awfully tough to beat receiving the keys to the city of Tampa or having your own bobblehead day, but once you chew on those for awhile they sort of lose their luster. In that case, I think Astro would have to be most pleased with the Dodgers efforts. They should at least keep him busy through the weekend in LA, and perhaps even the flight home to Tampa.

Hey, that's a long time in dog time.
