Curtis Granderson out 10 weeks after fracturing right forearm

According to multiple reports, all-star outfielder Curtis Granderson will be sidelined an estimated 10 weeks after fracturing his right forearm in the Yankees Grapefruit League game against the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday.

The devastating injury occurred in Granderson's first plate appearance when he was struck squarely by J.A. Happ's 2-2 pitch. Despite being in obvious pain, Granderson was able to take his base, but was then quickly removed after a visit from manager Joe Girardi and the team's trainer.

Here's a look at the pitch:

This has to be the Yankees absolute worst nightmare coming true. They will now turn to a combination of Matt Diaz and Juan Rivera to fill the expansive void left by Granderson's absence, or be forced to explore free agents such as Johnny Damon or Bobby Abreu. I suppose a trade for a guy like Alfonso Soriano would be a possibility as well, but there's no replacing Granderson's combination of pop and speed.

Assuming the 10-week timetable is accurate, Granderson would return sometime in the middle of May. But I'm sure there would be some further rehab needed to help make up for missing the majority of training camp.

Not good for the Yankees. Not good at all.
