Coco Crisp robs Prince Fielder of home run in ALDS Game 3

Oakland Athletics outfielder Coco Crisp berated himself on Twitter after his attempt at a basket catch failed for a huge two-run error in Sunday's Game 2 of the ALDS.

A's fans must have liked seeing Crisp stand accountable for that play, but the only way he truly could start to make amends was with his play on the field. And he has. Crisp made perhaps the best play of the postseason during Tuesday night's Game 3 win, leaping high and pulling back what appeared to be a home run ball by Prince Fielder to center field.

To Xfinity and beyond!

Was his effort even better than that of Jon Jay, the St. Louis Cardinals outfielder who ran down a long fly to left-center in Game 2 of the NDLS on Monday? Jay appeared to cover more ground, caught the ball over his shoulder and he certainly hit the fence harder than Crisp. But Crisp went higher, had even less room with his back to the fence and saved the ball from going over.

Regardless, that's two of the best plays of entire season within around 24 hours of each other in the playoffs — and we're only midway through the division series. Jayson Werth's catch at the fence against St. Louis was pretty swell, too. It's been a good October for leather.

Crisp's save on Fielder was the only fly ball the Tigers hit over six innings against left-hander Brett Anderson, who came through with a dominating effort in his first start in three weeks following an oblique injury. Oakland's defense continued to shine in the seventh when Yoenis Cespedes made a great dive to steal a hit from Fielder again. Prince had to be wondering what he did wrong.
