Carter Capps' delivery will probably blow your mind

In three seasons in the majors, Carter Capps has been an underwhelming reliever. He was about league-average in two brief stints in 2012 and 2014, but struggled during his only full season in 2013.

Capps is capable of posting an above-average strikeout rate, but that's about it. His walk rate is about league-average, and his WHIP leaves much to be desired.

Capps' numbers may be average, but his delivery is anything but ...

Let's see that again from a different angle.

To answer the question posed in the first tweet, yes, that is a legal delivery. In fact, St. Louis Cardinals' reliever Jordan Walden also incorporates a jump into his delivery.

Both deliveries are different, but similar.

What's amazing about Capps' windup is that he brings the ball completely behind his leg. It's amazing that hitters can even see the pitch, let alone hit it well.

You're probably wondering why Capps pitched so infrequently in the majors last season. Turns out, he spent a large chunk of last season on the disabled list with an elbow injury. It's probably easy to see how that happened.
