Carlos Corporán’s face-plant slide signals end of worst Astros season ever (Video)

Kids today just don't understand, but the Houston Astros used to be a sound franchise. They used to have great players. They used to win games. They even went to the World Series once. Now the Astros are bottom-dwellers, hopefully heading toward an upturn led by Jeff Luhnow as they saunter over to the American League in 2013. We shall see. But in the meantime, we have moments like this to remind us why the 'Stros lost 107 games to set a franchise record.

Carlos Corporán, who was actually average (that's a compliment) in 27 games this season, got very unlucky during a hit-and-run in the eighth inning Wednesday. A pitch by Shawn Camp veered outside and became un-hittable for Brandon Barnes, who swung and missed before Cubs catcher Anthony Recker fired to second, where Starlin Castro was waiting to apply the tag. But not before Corporán applied the most awkward head-first slide possible, face-planting in the sticky dirt in front of second base:

Ouch, man. Try it with the legs first next time. Well, we know what at least one Astros player will be working on, come spring training. The Cubs went on to win 5-4, kindly helping Houston set a futility record.
