Triple-A Buffalo Bisons score 27 runs, set International League record for runs and hits

It wasn't quite the 65-0 high school baseball game from earlier this week, but the Buffalo Bisons (the Triple-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays) put on quite an offensive show on Thursday, scoring 27 runs on 29 hits. Those were records for the International League.

The Bisons scored 10 runs in the seventh inning alone, which was enough to beat the Syracuse Chiefs (Washington Nationals affiliate). The final score was 27-9.

As you can imagine, some of the individual stat lines were gaudy:

Moises Sierra went 6-for-6, scoring five runs and driving in three. He was a home run away from the cycle.

• Leadoff hitter Jim Negrych did hit for the cycle, going 4-for-7.

Luis Jimenez had eight RBIs in a 5-for-7 day, including a three-run homer.

Ryan Langerhans had two home runs and six RBIs.

• Only one Bisons batter, shortstop Ryan Goins, had less than two hits.

• Syracuse had 14 hits too, including a 3-for-4 day from former MLB pitcher turned hitter Micah Owings.

If you're curious how 27 runs stack up to big-league records: The most in a game is 30, by the Texas Rangers in 2007. The Boston Red Sox and Chicago White Sox each scored 29, in 1950 and 1955 respectively. The St. Louis Cardinals scored 28 in 1929. The Cleveland Indians scored 27 in 1923.
