Baseball’s award announcements will be televised

Good news, baseball fans: The days of learning baseball's award winners by constantly clicking refresh on the BBWAA's website on a November afternoon are over.

For the first time ever, this year's crop of accolades will be announced on television with MLB Network getting the honors at 6 p.m. ET on four separate nights next week.

Here's the schedule:

Monday, Nov. 12: AL and NL Rookie of the Year Awards.
Tuesday, Nov. 13: AL and NL Managers of the Year.
Wednesday, Nov. 14: AL and NL Cy Young Awards.
Thursday, Nov. 15: AL and NL MVP Awards.

There is so much interest in the winners of these awards that you wonder why this wasn't done sooner. MLB Network's offseason programming won't mind the bounce in viewership and it always seemed weird to be reading November's biggest baseball news on a website that most of us ignore the rest of the year.

My only complaint is that they've condensed the announcement of both the MVP and Cy Young awards. The winner in each league used to get his news cycle to bask in the headlines and now they'll be forced to share the spotlight. That's not the end of the world, but it probably guarantees the result of this year's NL MVP race — which in many ways is more interesting and complex — will be completely overshadowed by the result of Mike Trout vs. Miguel Cabrera for the AL MVP award.
