Andrew McCutchen responds to young fan's birthday invitation

Pirates fan Bryce Robison wanted to make sure all of his favorite people were invited to his sixth birthday party, which was held on Sept. 7. Naturally, that included family and a few friends, but young Bryce also wanted his favorite Pirates player, reigning MVP Andrew McCutchen, to be there as well, so he made the effort to create and extend a special Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles themed invitation to him as well.

A little ambitious with the guest list, sure, but it's not like birthday parties come around that often. At that age, our heroes are as much a part of our lives as anyone else we know, so why not aim high and wait by the mailbox?

Of course, McCutchen was a little tied up that day. The Pirates played an early afternoon game in Chicago and later traveled to Philadelphia to begin the next series. He's been quite busy in the days that followed as well as he helps lead another Pittsburgh charge to the postseason. One could not reasonably expect him to respond to Bryce's invitation. In fact, many people in McCutchen's position wouldn't bother.

But that's not how he operates. Once he came across Bryce's invitation, he did his best to reach out on Facebook, hoping to find a way to reach Bryce.

Post by Andrew Mccutchen.

As luck would have it, he did. Bryce's mom saw McCutchen's post, shared it with her son, and then sent this heartfelt message back to McCutchen.

For all that has gone haywire in the world of sports recently, it's important to remember there are still many more quality people out there playing a game for a living. Andrew McCutchen is certainly at the top of the list, and he showed us why once again. One kind gesture gave one young kid a story he can tell until he himself has grandchildren. It doesn't get any better than that.
