A terrible swarm of bees invaded a Royals spring game again

The Kansas City Royals nearly ran into a foe that threatened to stop their chances at a repeat before the regular season began. No, it wasn't the team's opponent, the Colorado Rockies, it was a horrible swarm of bees!

Yes, bees briefly interrupted Tuesday's game between the Royals and the Rockies. While play was never suspended (we think) the bees did force the Royals to take cover at points during the contest.

Eventually, the bees settled on an equipment bag near the team's dugout and ... holy moly, that's a lot of bees!

With all the bees in one place, it was time to strike. Despite that fact that the bees were making life harder on Royals manager Ned Yost, he demanded that the creatures not be killed.

It was at this point that a retired beekeeper stepped in and took action. Yes, believe it or not, a retired beekeeper was at the game, and was more than willing to take care of the issue. The beekeeper, Lowell Hutchinson, used his bare hands to transfer the container the bees had swarmed to a garbage bag.

The bees were escorted from the stadium unharmed, just as Yost requested.

Somehow, this whole thing gets better. As if having a beekeeper at the game wasn't enough of a coincidence, the Royals actually had a spring game interrupted by bees last season. That took place exactly one year ago! You could not write a more ridiculous script.

Now that we're equipped with this knowledge, our opinion of the bees has changed. Perhaps they weren't there to wreck havoc on the Royals in an attempt to prevent a repeat. Perhaps they appeared once again to imbue the team with their power so they can win another World Series title.

The Royals hitters were known for swarming their opposing pitchers last season. Maybe we finally have an answer for why that was the case.
