No. 1 star: Sébastien Sylvestre, Rimouski Oceanic (QMJHL)

Sylvestre scored the game-tying and game-winning goals as Rimouski came back in roaring fashion to defeat the QMJHL-leading Baie-Comeau Drakkar 5-4 in overtime on Saturday.

He scored to even the score at four with his 29th goal of the year at 18:50 of the third period, and then iced it with his 30th with one minute left in overtime. He added an assist in the first for a three-point night. The points give him 30 in 23 games since he was acquired in a mid-season trade with Chicoutimi.

Rimouski built a 2-0 lead halfway through the game, but Baie-Comeau stormed back to four unanswered in the next fifteen minutes, leading the way for the Oceanic to be heroes. Tyler Boland scored a goal on the powerplay to get Rimouski within one with just under five to play.

Peter Trainor scored the first two Rimouski goals and added two helpers in the win. Samuel Morin had the sole assist on the winner, as they improved to 43-15-3-4, just two points behind the league-leading Drakkar. Philippe Desrosiers made 37 saves for the win in net.

Dominic Poulin had two goal for the Drakkar in the loss. Philippe Cadorette made 30 stops. Baie-Comeau dropped to 45-16-2-3.

No. 2 star: #FreeJaedon Descheneau, Kootenay Ice (WHL)

The hashtag has earned title status Saturday as Descheneau had points in each Ice goal in their 3-1 win over the Regina Pats. He had primary assists on Jagger Dirk’s and Luke Philp’s goals before burying an empty netter himself to put the game out of reach.

Three points gives Descheneau 94 on the year, closing in on a century mark as the season winds down. The goal gave him 42.

Sam Reinhart had two assists, both goals Descheneau assisted on, as Kootenay rolls on without the services of Tim Bozon, the usual winger on their line. Bozon is now under a medically-assisted coma in Saskatoon as he continues to battle with meningitis.

The win was Kootenay’s 39th of the year, enough for fifth in the WHL’s Eastern Conference. They improve to 39-25-2-2. Regina dropped to 38-25-3-3.

No. 3 co-stars: Louick Marcotte, Val-d’Or Foreurs (QMJHL) & Curtis Valk, Medicine Hat Tigers (WHL)

Both players had hat tricks and added assists in games where their teams scored five goals. They also both completed their hat tricks in empty nets. Marcotte scored the winning goal, while Valk merely assisted on it, but it was a shorthanded assist, so co-stars it is.

Marcotte’s hatty and assist came in Val-d’Or’s 5-2 win over the Gatineau Olympiques. He scored his first two goals nearly four minutes apart to put the Foreurs up for good. The win gave Val-d’Or a three point cushion over the Quebec Remparts for fifth in the QMJHL. Samuel Henley had three assists in the win.

Valk opened the scoring with his 42nd goal of the year in the first period, and then scored early in the second on the man advantage. He assisted Anthony Ast’s shorthanded marker for the winner, and added an empty-netter to seal the deal for the hatty. The Tigers defeated the Red Deer Rebels 5-3.
