No. 1 star: Dante Salituro, Ottawa 67’s (OHL)

Salituro was the offense for the 67’s in their 6-5 shootout win over the North Bay Battalion.

He scored two goals and assisted three others in the win, including primary assists on key Brendan Bell goals to even the score in the third. Bell scored with less than two minutes to go to tie the game at 5-5 and send it to a shootout.

The only thing Salituro, up for the draft as an 18 year old this season, couldn’t do Sunday was score in the shootout, as teammate Travis Barron scored the only goal in the relay to give the 67’s the win in the fifth round.

North Bay was up 4-1 midway in the second period when the 67’s, led by two Salituro goals, tied the game at four, followed by Bell’s clutch second marker after they again fell, this time 5-4 to the Battalion later in the third.

Bell added two assists to give himself a four point night. Liam Herbst made 23 saves in the win. Miles Liberati had a goal and two assists in the loss.

Ottawa improved to 27-20-2-1 and gained ground on North Bay, who sit six points ahead of the 67’s.

No. 2 star: Carson Stadnyk, Everett Silvertips (WHL)

Stadnyk potted the winner at 1:34 of overtime to give the Silvertips the 4-3 win over the Portland Winterhawks. He buried a Noah Juulsen pass behind Adin Hill to give the Tips the home win.

Stadnyk added a pair of helpers in the first period to make it a three-point night for the 19-year-old forward. The points brought him back above the point-a-game mark, with 56 points in 54 games for the native of Saskatoon.

Everett had 2-0 and 3-2 leads in the game before the Winterhawks forced overtime. A Chase De Leo goal in the third frame’s final minute brought the game to extra fun for Stadnyk’s heroics.

Kohl Bauml had two goals and an assist in the game for the Tips, who improved their U.S. Division lead over the Hawks to six points. Hill stopped 45 in the loss.

No. 3 star: Sam Babintsev, Mississauga Steelheads (OHL)

Babintsev led the way for the Steelheads in their 6-3 doubling of the Sarnia Sting.

The Moscow native scored twice, including the winner, and added an assist to push the Steelheads to their 22nd win of the year. The goals give him 18 on the year, six up on his previous career-high.

Babintsev’s three point night was the best in a collection of good nights for Mississauga players. Jimmy Lodge also scored twice. Bryson Cianfrone and Stefan LeBlanc each had goals and assists.

The Steelheads also got a good outing from starting netminder Cameron Zanussi, who stopped 38 shots in the win.
