No. 1 Star: Mathieu Joseph, Saint John Sea Dogs (QMJHL)

Joseph (2G-3A, +3) was here, there and everywhere tonight. He was in on all five of Saint John’s goals in a 5-2 win over the Sherbrooke Phoenix.

The 17-year-old wing kicked off his night by potting a short-handed goal just over eight minutes into the game. Down by one, he helped set up markers from Justice Dundas and Adam Bateman (1G-2A, +1) in the second period to put the Sea Dogs back on top. He went on to light the lamp for a second time 4:35 into the final frame on the man advantage before closing out the match by notching a helper on Samuel Dove-McFalls’ (1G-3A, +3) empty-netter.

The five-point effort topped Joseph’s previous three-point high in his young QMJHL career. The impressive performance also gives him 14 goals and 31 points in 43 games on the year.

In a close 33-32 game on the shot clock, Sebastien Auger won the goaltending battle with a 30-save effort.

No. 2 Star: Anthony DeAngelo, Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds (OHL)

In a 6-1 statement win over Connor McDavid’s Erie Otters, DeAngelo (1G-3A, +2) stepped up and led his club from the back end with a four-point game.

The Tampa Bay Lightning first-round pick gave the Greyhounds a 2-0 lead in the middle of the first period when he netted his 14th marker on the year. After assisting a Zachary Senyshyn (2G, +2) goal just 1:04 into the second, he notched a pair of primary helpers on the power play from Sergey Tolchinsky (1G-1A, +2) and Michael Bunting (1G-2A, +2) snipes.

The victory gives Sault Ste. Marie a five-point lead on Erie for top spot in the Western Conference.

No. 3 Star: Colby Williams, Regina Pats (WHL)

Williams’ (1G-3A, +4) incredible third period effort lifted the Pats to a 5-2 win over the rival Saskatoon Blades.

Following notching a helper on a Taylor Cooper goal in the first 20 minutes, the 6-foot, 195-pound blueliner went to work with his club down by one at the end of the second period. He set up Patrick D’Amico’s short-handed marker with a great feed from the wing and found the back of the net for one of his own in the first half of the frame. He wrapped up the game by notching an assist on underage call-up Jake Leschyshyn’s first WHL goal with just over two minutes left on the clock.

Honourable mention: Roberts Lipsbergs, Seattle Thunderbirds (WHL)

The Latvian overage’s four-point night helped the Thunderbirds end the Portland Winterhawks’ eight-game winning streak in the 6-3 affair.

Lipsbergs started his night with a power-play goal 5:48 into the game to put Seattle up by two. After helping set up markers from Evan Wardley (1G-1A) and Ryan Gropp, he regained the two-goal lead at the 14:14 mark in the final frame when he found the back of the net with a backhander following winning a race to the puck.
