Quebec Remparts' Anthony Duclair scores first NHL for New York Rangers (VIDEO)

True story: when Anthony Duclair met the New York City media for the first time at the 2013 NHL draft after the Rangers chose him No. 80 overall, one reporter scribbled down "Jordan Subban" in his notebook. Hey, even the best of us can fall prey to mistaken identity once the picks start coming fast and furious in the middle rounds of the draft.

No chance of that happening anymore. The Quebec Remparts 50-goal scorer might have bought himself a longer stay with the New York Rangers after scoring his first big-league goal on Monday during a comeback win over the Minnesota Wild. It came on a quintessentially Duclair play, as he took a lead pass and picked a corner, tying the game in an eventual 5-4 Rangers win. It came in the Duke's seventh NHL game, as the Rangers can dress him for two more contests before they have to commit to using the first year of Duclair's entry-level contract.

Only 11 of the 72 skaters selected before Duclair in the 2013 draft have scored a NHL goal. What a story.

It's important not to get too swept up in hype with any teenager, but Duclair certainly hasn't looked out of place for any reasons pertaining to skills or playing at high pace. The Montrealer has had points in each of the past two games since the Rangers had him sit and watch for a couple contests.

The nine-game deadline, of course, is only for committing to paying a player's contract. It's entirely conceivable the Rangers could defer the decision until December, when Duclair would surely be a top-end wing for Team Canada.

Between the world junior and Quebec hosting the Memorial Cup in May, Duclair will have plenty of high-leverage development opportunities. That is something else to keep top-of-mind, but for now, more power to him the longer that can he stay on Broadway.
