No. 1 star: Devin Williams, Erie Otters (OHL)

The oft-maligned netminder made Round 2-quality saves against the London Knights, stopping 27-of-28 shots to buy time for Connor McDavid (3A, +2) and the Otters to turn turned a tight game into a decisive 4-1 Game 3 victory and 3-0 series lead.

The 19-year-old Williams didn't get the quintessential early wake-up call while called upon to make only five saves in the first period. The Saginaw, Mich., native got got on the level of Max Domi and Christian Dvorak while making 13 stops in the second. Williams got post-to-post quickly to rob the 100-point scorers' linemate, Matt Rupert, of a tying goal late in the period, and came up with two more Grade-A stops against the big London line in a frantic final 40 seconds of the period.

Erie finally pulled away in the third after a McDavid between-the-legs pass out to Nick Betz for that elusive 2-0 goal against Knights goalie Michael Giugovaz (37 saves on 41 shots) in his first OHL playoff start). The lone goal against Williams came on a redirection by ex-Otter Joel Wigle with 6:34 remaining.

No. 2 star: Adam Erne, Quebec Remparts (QMJHL)

Erne scored his league-leading 10th of the playoffs 16:19 into overtime, giving Quebec a 4-3 win over Charlottetown and 2-0 lead in the quarter-final. The Tampa Bay Lightning prospect chased down his own rebound and stuffed a wraparound by Islanders goalie Daryl MacCallum (48 saves). Underdog
Charlottetown put a jolt into the Remparts when New York Islanders signing Ross Johnston scored an overtime-forcing goal with 1:09 left in regulation, but the Remparts recovered. Erne (2G, -1) also had a first-period goal, while unsigned Edmonton Oilers second-rounder Marc-Olivier Roy scored the other two Remparts goals.

No. 3 star: Marek Langhamer, Medicine Hat Tigers (WHL)

Langhamer bounced back from a shaky series opener to stop 39-of-41 shots to keep the Tigers extant in their series-tying 3-2 win over the Calgary Hitmen at the Saddledome. The overage goalie matched cord-cottage counterpart Mack Shields (47-of-50) save for save from the outset, coming up with a huge stop early on Philadelphia Flyers selection Radel Fazleev. Langhamer had to be sharp while it took nearly 35 minutes to either team to score; he also had to gather himself after allowing a game-tying five-hole goal to Jordy Stallard with 12:54 left in regulation.

The Czech Republic native had 13 saves in overtime, including a quick reaction on a redirection by Calgary captain Kenton Helgesen, before Matt Staples ended it at 17:35 with a shot from centre ice that eluded the hard-luck Shields.

Honourable mention: Tobias Lindberg, Oshawa Generals (OHL)

The Ottawa Senators prospect received first-star recognition after the Gens won 6-1 against the NIagara IceDogs to go up 2-0 in the series. Lindberg (1G-1A, +1) got the puck to Michael Dal Colle (1G-2A, +2) to draw first blood 8:56 into the game. Oshawa was up just 2-1 after 40 minutes, but stablllized after a penalty kill at the start of the third period before LIndberg jammed in a rebound at 3:44 to open a multi-goal spread. Los Angeles Kings pick Matt Mistele added a dagger goal minutes later.

Potent notables — Anaheim Ducks prospect Nick Ritchie had three points (1G-2A, +1) during Sault Ste. Marie's 6-1 win against Guelph, moving into second in OHL playoff scoring with 17 in seven games ... Senators prospect Nick Paul scored a short-handed game-winner in North Bay's 3-2 series-tying road win against Barrie.
