No. 1 Star: Daniel Audette, Sherbrooke Phoenix (QMJHL)

Audette was here, there and everywhere for the Phoenix in their 6-5 victory against the Moncton Wildcats. The Montreal Canadiens prospect was in on all six of Sherbrook’s goals with two markers and four assists. Following assisting a David Storto goal (2G, +2) in the opening frame, he netted his first of the night roughly five minutes into the second and set up a Tim Wieser (2G-1A, -3) marker on the man advantage with less than three minutes left in the period. The 5-foot-9, 188-pound centre, whose father is former NHLer Donald Audette, went on to set up back-to-back goals from Wieser and Storto in the third period to bring the Phoenix within one with roughly seven minutes left in the game. Fittingly, Audette played hero with 16 seconds left in the contest by scoring the game-winning goal on the power play.

Audette is off to an outstanding start to his 18-year-old season with 10 goals and 24 points in 14 matches. He’s only 11 goals away from matching his previous season’s goal total of 21 markers.

No. 2 Star: Joseph Blandisi, Barrie Colts (OHL)

The 20-year-old centre notched a goal in every period to net his second hat trick on the year as the Colts beat Kingston Frontenacs 5-4. After netting even-strength markers in the first and second periods, Blandisi scored a massive short-handed goal in the final frame that proved to be the game-winner.

Blandisi wasn’t the only overage to net a three-goal effort. Frontenacs winger Robert Polesello scored three goals in the first period, with two of them coming on the man advantage. Los Angeles Kings prospect Spencer Watson (4A, -1) played a key role in Polesselo’s hatty as he assisted all three of his goals.

No. 3 Star: Adam Erne, Quebec Remparts (QMJHL)

The Tampa Bay Lightning second-round pick crushed the Acadie-Bathurst Titan’s dreams of pulling off a major comeback win against the Remparts. He scored the overtime winner on the power play after the Titan erased his club’s three-goal lead in the third period to push it to extra time. The game-winner was just the icing on the cake for Erne as he netted back-to-back goals in the second period in the 5-4 win. His three-goal performance puts him at over a goal-per-game pace this year with 10 goals and 17 points in nine contests.

Dmytro Timashov (3A, +1) and Cody Donaghey (2A, -1) made some slick passes for the Remparts.

Honourable mention: Carter Folk, Lethbridge Hurricanes (WHL)

The Regina native was ready to play in the Hurricanes’ matchup against the Saskatoon Blades. He scored a goal in every situation to net his first hatty of his major junior career in Lethbridge’s 7-2 win. Folk scored an even-strength marker just under two minutes into the game before scoring his second of the period at the 18:53 mark in the frame. He completed his three-goal effort with a short-handed early in the third period.

Honourable mention: Mitchell Vande Sompel, Oshawa Generals (OHL)

Vande Sompel, who’s in his NHL draft year, put together a five-point performance in the Generals’ 8-5 win against the Saginaw Spirit. He scored a goal and three assists in the opening 20 minutes before notching his fourth apple in the third period.

Calgary Flames second-round pick Hunter Smith (1G-2A, +1) and Vancouver Canucks prospect Cole Cassels (2G, -1) had notable performances behind Vande Sompel.

Honourable mention: Pius Suter, Guelph Storm (OHL)

The Switzerland native potted the OHL’s third hat trick of the night. He scored goals in the first and second periods before notching an empty-net marker with 57 seconds left in the game to seal the 5-2 win for the Storm over the Windsor Spitfires.
