No. 1 star: Colby Cave, Swift Current Broncos (WHL)

Cave, Swift Current's overage captain, and his teammates found some holes behind goalie Nick McBride and won 7-3 against the Prince Albert Raiders, eliminating them from playoff contention. Cave (4G-1A, +3), fellow 20-year-old Carter Rigby (4A, +3) and 18-year-old NHL draft hopeful Jake DeBrusk (2G-2A, +3) were the main demolition crew for Swift Current, which only had one goal on 53 shots against McBride and the Raiders on Friday night.

Cave served notice the night would proceed different, scoring twice in the first period and also getting the primary assist on a power-play goal by Montreal Canadiens prospect Brett Lernout that opened a 3-1 lead. After Prince Albert took a penalty in the closing seconds of the period, Cave completed his third hat trick of the season early in the second. The Battleford, Sask., native also had an early third-period goal that opened a 5-2 lead. The result kept Swift Current four points clear of Moose Jaw for the final playoff spot in their division, but now with only three games to play.

No. 2 star: Sam Bennett, Kington Frontenacs (OHL)

Make it six in a row for Kingston after a 6-0 win over North Bay, which it's on track to meet in the playoffs. Bennett (3G-1A, +3) was utterly dominant, and he and his wings Lawson Crouse (1G-2A, +3) and Spencer Watson (2A, +3) combined for nine points. Bennett scored goals on back-to-back shifts in the first period and scored on a solo effort late in the second. The Calgary Flames first-rounder earned an assist on a Crouse power-play salvo in the first minute of the third. Lucas Peressini also had his team-record sixth shutout of the season.

No. 3 star: Mitchell Stephens, Saginaw Spirit (OHL)

Stephens (3A, +3) assisted on the last-minute tying goal and overtime winner by Jesse Barwell (2G-2A, +3), as Saginaw generated a three-point swing in the standings by beating Plymouth 6-5 in overtime to move closer to locking up the last Western Conference playoff berth. The win put Saginaw five points up on Plymouth and Windsor, which each have four games left.

The two sophomore linemates did almost all of their work in the third period and later. Stephens fed Barwell for a tying goal 1:07 into the frame. Plymouth went back in front twice more, but the pair ultimately set up Vladislav Kodola for the equalizer with 33 seconds later before Barwell got the decider with 2:08 left in overtime.

Honourable mention: Trevor Cox, Medicine Hat Tigers (WHL)

Cox (1G-2A, +2) regained the Western League point lead and helped Medicine Hat keep a share of the Central Division lead by beating the Edmonton Oil Kings 6-3. The forward got the only goal of a first period where the Tigers had a 17-3 lead on the shot counter. The Oil Kings made a push to pull level at 3-3 by the third period, but Medicine Hat's complementary scorers delivered two goals in 85 seconds, while Cox set up Cole Sanford for his 49th goal of the season to seal the win.

The 19-year-old Cox has a 104-103 lead over Brandon's Tim McGauley and Portland's Oliver Bjorkstrand for the scoring title. Medicine Hat and Calgary are also dead even in their division race with four games left.

Honourable mention: Danny Moynihan, Halifax Mooseheads (QMJHL)

The 19-year-old Moynihan hit the 30-goal mark with gusto, scoring a power-play hat trick during Halifax's 7-4 road win against the Saint John Sea Dogs. Moynihan (3G), a Boston native, first struck early in the second off a setup from Nikolaj Ehlers (2G-2A, +1). He struck again late in the period to re-open a three-goal lead, then tallied 1:39 into the final frame to put the game out of reach.
