Leafs prospect Connor Brown notches 6 points in blowout win: Sunday’s 3 Stars

No. 1 star: Connor Brown, Erie Otters (OHL)

Brown added more fuel to Don Cherry's fire to advocate that Hockey Canada made a mistake by not taking him to the world junior championship. The Toronto Maple Leafs prospect scored two goals and four assists in a 9-0 blowout against the Windsor Spitfires.

The 5-foot-11, 170-pound Brown scored a goal in each of the last two periods, assisted all three of Dane Fox's markers and added another helper on a Andre Burakovsky goal. The six-point performance gives Brown a seven-point lead on Fox for the league lead in points. Not to mention, he has four goals and 15 points in his last five games.

Brown's teammates were his toughest competition for BTN's first star. In addition to Fox's hatty, 2015 NHL draft sensation Connor McDavid (1G-4A, +3), Adam Pelech (4A, +5), Brendan Gaunce (3A, +4) and Oscar Dansk (25-save shutout) boosted their stats against the Spitfires.

No. 2 star: Philippe Cadorette, Baie-Comeau Drakkar (QMJHL)

Cadorette practically single-handedly won the Drakkar's match against the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies. He turned aside all 42 shots that came his way while the team in front of him only mustered 19 pucks on the Huskies' net in the 1-0 game. The 18-year-old Cadorette's best 20-minute stretch happened in the middle frame when he stopped 20 shots. His teammates rewarded him for his exceptional second period as Alexandre Ranger scored at the 19:03 mark.

The St-Hyacinthe, QC., native's strong performance was his second in a row. Cadorette, who received an invite to the Edmonton Oilers' rookie camp last offseason, stopped 47 of 48 shots two days before against the Val-d'Or Foreurs.

No. 3 star: Sam Reinhart, Kootenay Ice (WHL)

Down 3-1 after 40 minutes, Reinhart led the Ice to a comeback win against the Edmonton Oil Kings in his first game since the world junior tourney. The 6-foot-1, 183-pound centre kicked off the final period with a quick goal just over a minute into it. He went onto score the game-tying marker and assist Zach Franko's game-winner in the 5-4 victory. Reinhart and the Ice should thank the WHL for scheduling the Oil Kings' third game in three nights against them.

Reinhart, who has 18 goals and 53 points in 34 games, will captain Team Cherry at the CHL's Top Prospects Game on Wednesday.

Honourable mention: Justin Nichols, Guelph Storm (OHL)

The Kitchener Rangers couldn't buy a goal against the Storm because Nichols did his best brick-wall emulation. The 18-year-old sophomore posted a 29-save shutout in the 5-0 win. The perfect game is Nichols' third of his major junior career.

Jason Dickinson (3A, +1) and Brock McGinn (2G, +1) led the Storm on the score sheet.
