Erie Otters’ Connor McDavid gets first OHL goal (VIDEO)

It was not an end-to-end rush, but there was a wow factor to how Connor McDavid got his first major junior goal last Friday.

What's the saying, the hard work is getting open, the rest is a piece of cake? In only his second Ontario Hockey League game, going up against the defensively stingy London Knights, the 15-year-old Erie Otters centre who's already being hyped as the NHL's No. 1 overall pick for the 2015 draft showed why he sees the game on a much higher level than players two and three years older. McDavid carried into the Knights end and slipped a pass to linemate Connor Brown, a Toronto Maple Leafs draft choice. The genius of it was how McDavid made himself scarce, slipping unnoticed between London defencemen Tommy Hughes and Olli Määttä (a Pittsburgh Penguins first-round pick) before materializing in the goal mouth to re-direct Adam Pelech's shot for his maiden marker in major junior.

From Rogers TV London:

The media attention McDavid is receiving will likely subside once the novelty of him being the OHL's first 15-year-old forward since John Tavares wears off. Plays like that hint at what makes him unique; it's worth posting the goal for posterity's sake since there will be a lot more of them across the this season and the next two.
