A new car means an adjustment period, as Acadie-Bathurst Titan blueliner Nicolas Dumulong learned Wednesday.

Dumulong was released from hospital today after suffering a leg injury in a car-related mishap Wednesday morning in the parking lot of the K.C. Irving Regional Centre.

“I just got a new car and I was a bit late so I was in a hurry,” the 19-year-old defenceman told L’Acadie NOUVELLE Wednesday.

He arrived to the rink for practice in his brand new vehicle and parked, or thought he did. Turns out the car has a manual transmission, so it started rolling. He starting walking to the rink until fellow defender Mark Trickett noticed his car moving forward and picking up speed.

“Mark said ‘your car!’, so I looked back and it was going off the side of the parking lot,” he said.

Dumulong went to try and hop into the driver’s seat of his car, but in his efforts he slipped on grass and the car ran over both his legs at the knee. The ambulance was called and he was taken to the hospital but later released.

“I want people to know that I’m okay,” the tough blueliner said.

“A car is pretty hard to stop compared to a player coming across the blueline,” he added with a laugh. “It’s a little heavier. I’ve never hit a guy that hard!”

He suffered from a bit of a scare but x-rays were negative and nothing is broken in his leg. He was up and walking Wednesday and could be back in the lineup as early as next week.

Due to original fears and the shock of the players who witnessed the incident, Wednesday’s game between the Titan and the visiting Saint John Sea Dogs was cancelled and will be made up at a later date.

Dumulong has six points, all assists, in 23 games so far this season.

The Titan are in 17th place in the QMJHL with a 10-17-2-1 record. They hit the ice again on Friday against the Val-d’Or Foreurs.
