Top-rated pitching prospect Tyler Kolek has yet to allow a hit as a high school senior

This past summer, Baseball America dubbed Tyler Kolek the next great big-bodied, right-handed pitching prospect from Texas – following the footsteps of guys like Roger Clemens, Kerry Wood and Josh Beckett – and the Shepherd High senior is certainly living up to that billing on the mound this season.

Three weeks into the Texas prep baseball season, Kolek has yet to allow a hit, according to MaxPreps. The 6-foot-5, 250-pounder has recorded 35 strikeouts against just one walk over 15 innings in his first three appearances for the Pirates. He's earned two of Shepherd's four wins in the team's first 13 games.

Meanwhile, Kolek already has 14 hits in 39 at-bats this season, belting a pair of home runs.

After two five-inning appearances on the mound to start the season – a 3-0 win and a 2-0 loss finished off by his younger brother Stephen Kolek – Perfect Game's No. 1 right-handed pitching prospect recorded his first no-hitter of the season with a 10-0 mercy-rule win over Liberty (Texas) High over the weekend.

"We haven't faced anybody that dominant yet," Liberty coach Will Joiner, whose team entered the game 11-1 on the season, told the Cleveland Advocate.

Kolek struck out 11, walked none and hit a batter, throwing 45 of his 64 pitches for strikes in five innings against Liberty. The Texas Christian commit regularly touches the high 90s on his fastball and was even clocked at 100 miles per hour at the Area Code Games this past summer, according to Student Sports. In other words, he should be a high Major League Baseball draft pick come June.
