Oregon receiver Kraig Pruett sets national single-game receiving record

There's a new single-game receiving king, and he picked a rather appropriate time to put in his best game.

As reported by The Oregonian and MaxPreps, Waldport (Ore.) High senior wide receiver Kraig Pruett finished his final game of the season with an all-time, national single-game receiving record of 456 yards. He amassed all those yards on 18 catches, four of which were for touchdowns. The previous national record was set just last year, when Gehrig Dieter of South Bend (Ind.) Washington High racked up 437 yards.

Pruett, who stands just 5-foot-7 and 170 pounds, finished the season with 87 receptions for 1,550 yards and 13 touchdowns, helping Walport complete the season with a 5-5 record.

As it turns out, Pruett's huge night was born largely out of necessity, with Waldport's other significant receiver sitting out the game with an injury. To say that he stepped up to the challenge is a serious understatement.

"Our other big receiver was injured on the night. So we thought we would throw it around a bit and we ended up throwing 40-something times. Our quarterback, TJ Fisher, likes to throw it to Kraig and so they had a good connection on the night," Waldport football coach Edgar Townsend told MaxPreps.

"Kraig is a pastor's son. He came from West Salem High and has been a huge addition. He is an extremely humble and well-mannered kid. There isn't an arrogant bone in his body. He is an awesome leader. … He is a kid I would want my daughter to marry with no doubt."

There is no word as of yet on whether Pruett has intentions for Townsend's daughter, but one thing is certain: He certainly turned her head — along with all other football fans -- with his final high school football flourish.
