Ohio H.S. senior passes LeBron James on state scoring list

A high school senior just surpassed LeBron James on Ohio's all-time scoring list – and he did it in style.

Kennard, who will play at Duke University next year, came into Friday night's game 38 points behind James. He netted 44 in the game, more than enough to claim fourth place on the list, as he led Franklin High School to a 90-64 win.

A local radio announcer captured the moment.

Averaging 39.1 points per game this season, Kennard has a shot of surpassing No. 3 as well, but would need more than 500 to claim the top spot, according to the Dayton Daily News.

James had owned the No. 4 spot for more than a decade. He had 2,646 points in high school.

Kennard is ranked No. 24 on the Rivals100 and will play at Duke University next year. He was recently named a McDonald's All American.

When the Cincinnati Enquirer spoke to James about the scoring list earlier this week, the NBA king wished Kennard well.

"That's great," James said. "I'm happy for him."

Never one to be outdone, though, the three-time high school state champion joked, "He's not coming up on my assists record or my wins in state championships."
