It started like any other Saturday afternoon game, but the girls soccer sectional quarterfinal between New York’s Brighton and Pittsford Sutherland high schools turned out to be one both teams will always remember. The game took two days to complete, reports Rochester’s Democrat and Chronicle.

The game remained scoreless through regulation, 20 minutes of regular overtime and 10 minutes of golden-goal overtime. Bring on the penalty kicks.

In a complete reverse, the flood gates opened, with each team scoring 10 straight goals. But as the suspense mounted, the game was halted by lightning. They’d have to wait until Monday afternoon to play it out.

On Monday, according to the local paper:

Brighton’s Mary Flanagan and Pittsford’s Lauren Graupman each made a save in the 11th round. In the next round, Brooke Wolff scored for Brighton but Grace Dunnigan answered for Pittsford Sutherland to make it 10-10. Brighton’s 13th attempt missed off the left post, setting the stage for [Vicki] Beatham. She sent the ball inside the left post.

And just like that, No. 12 Pittsford Sutherland was moving on to the sectional semifinals.
