Keyshawn Johnson Jr. lands two scholarship offers before playing first varsity season

Three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson's son hasn't even played a varsity season in his young football career, but received his first two Division I scholarship offers on the same day this week.

Keyshawn Johnson Jr. announced offers from both Florida State and Arizona State on his Twitter account Thursday. He reportedly played for Mission Viejo (Calif.) High's freshman team this past fall.

Johnson's scholarship offers only reinforces how good Mission Viejo's varsity program was last season. The Diablos finished 11-1 after losing to perennial powerhouse Mater Dei in the sectional quarterfinals, and not even Keyshawn Sr. -- who served as an assistant on the staff -- could convince head coach Bob Johnson to keep his Division I-bound son on the varsity roster as a freshman.

Still, Keyshawn Jr. managed to turn heads at his father's Team 19 7-on-7 workout last month.

"Johnson's son by the same name is still young, but he already has really good size and very impressive hands," Rivals recruiting analyst Adam Gorney said. "The 2017 prospect from Mission Viejo has very nice hands just like his father and he made his mark during the workout. His speed isn't excellent yet, but he's also going against players much older than him so he will improve throughout the years."

The elder Johnson, who also contributes to ESPN's NFL coverage, was an All-American at USC.
