Leave it to Saguaro (Scottsdale, Ariz.) High football coach Jason Mohns to use the biggest accomplishment of his young coaching career to double his celebration.

Moments after receiving the trophy for the Arizona Interscholastic Association Division III football title, Mohns turned and bent down on his knee to ask his girlfriend of four years to marry him. Sara Cooper, who has been with Mohns during his time as an offensive coordinator and head coach at Saguaro (he was promoted for the 2012 season), immediately said yes, setting off an emotional double celebration at midfield.

"We have been dating for four years, and she is wonderful," Mohns told ArizonaSports.com. "She has been very patient with me being a coach."

Based on his team’s success against Queen Creek, Cooper’s patience will likely have to continue. Mohns appears to have plenty of successful seasons ahead of him. Saguaro rolled to a 47-25 victory, with quarterback Luke Rubenzera Cal commit — leading the way with 246 yards and three touchdowns throughout the air. The title game built off an impressive 2013 campaign in which he set both single season and career state records for touchdowns, with 61 and 130 respectively. According to AZCentral.com, Rubenzer’s 246 yards pushed his career passing yards to 9,648 yards, also a state mark.

While it was Saguaro’s stars like Rubenzer and running back Christian Kirk that paved the way to a state title, it was hard to deny the day belonged to the coach and his soon-to-be bride.

"This has been an unbelievable year," Mohns told AZCentral. "This is a family, that’s the only way to describe this team. I’m sad that it’s over, but we got some memories that'll last us a lifetime."

Now Mohns and his fiancee will have some memories to plan together.
