Marc Leishman fires 62 to win first PGA Tour event at the Travelers Championship

It takes a lot of skill and little bit of luck to win on the PGA Tour. Marc Leishman can attest to that, after he helped himself with an 8-under 62 early in the final round, and then watched the leaders blow up on the last couple of holes to pick up his first PGA Tour win.

Leishman, who came close to securing his maiden win earlier this year at the HP Byron Nelson Championship, won at a place that's been good to first-time winners over the last couple of years, becoming the third straight first-time winner at the Travelers Championship.

After rolling in a critical 15-footer for birdie on the par-4 17th hole, Leishman failed to birdie the 18th, settling for a final-round 62 that left him at 14-under for the tournament. With the final few groups just making the turn at 13-under, it appeared as if 14-under might come up short.

But what we didn't expect was that Charley Hoffman and Bubba Watson would struggle over the final four holes. Hoffman, who had a two-shot lead with two holes to play, went double-bogey, bogey to finish at 13-under for the tournament. Bubba Watson failed to record a birdie over his final five holes -- that included slicing his tee shot into the water on the drivable par-4 15th -- to post 13-under as well. And when the dust finally settled, Leishman was still on top.

Even with Watson and Hoffman's struggles, give Leishman credit for his brilliant final round. Without his strong play down the stretch we wouldn't be talking about him making a trip to the winner's circle.
