Day wished for another round at the weather-shortened Zurich Classic

Jason Day would've loved to have one more day of the Zurich Classic.

Unfortunately for the world No. 1, repeated weather delays in the New Orleans area forced PGA Tour officials to shorten the event to 54 holes for a Monday finish. Day improved in each of the three official rounds played this week, going 69, then 68, then wrapping up a 6-under 66 on Monday to finish tied for fifth at 13-under 203, two shots out of the three-man playoff eventually won by Brian Stuard.

“I'd stay here until the weekend if we could play 72 holes,” Day said afterward.

No dice for Day, as the PGA Tour had to move on to Charlotte for this week's Wells Fargo Championship. Instead, Day will lament a 2-over second nine in Round 1, which included four bogeys. Had he played that nine in even par, he would have had a chance to get in the playoff.

Nonetheless, the Aussie No. 1 credited a change in his alignment after a disappointing third-round 79 at the RBC Heritage as helping him contend this week. Now it's a week off for Day, who is turning his attention to winning next week's The Players Championship, the PGA Tour's crown jewel event.

"I need to make sure that I'm prepped and ready coming into The Players, because I need to stay sharp," he said. "I need to hit drivers and irons like I did this week and improve the short game, and if I can do that, I definitely feel like I have a shot at winning that tournament."
