Darts in the Dark: Pebble Beach pick, Dustin Johnson

This year I was coerced by a hockey writing friend of mine to do a weekly one-and-done golf pool that allows you to pick one golfer, never to use them again in 2013. Since I'm doing it for fun (and DEFINITELY not for money, no way, no how), I figured I'd post my weekly picks here, with who I've already used under it and my record for the year, and against the others in the pool. We're calling this Darts in the Dark.

AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am pick: Dustin Johnson

One of my main strategies to this "one and done" format of picking players each week is to save some of the big names until the end of the season (Shout-out to the FedEx Cup Playoffs!). And I was planning on keeping Dustin Johnson late into the season so I could burn him at the Barclays or something until I found out this fascination piece of information for this week at Pebble Beach; Dustin is playing with his girlfriend's dad (some dude named Wayne Gretzky) in the pro-am.

When I found that out, I was all-in. Johnson has had some time off, already has a win this season, and has thoroughly dominated Pebble Beach throughout the years (two wins, three top-10s here including that U.S. Open that he collapsed at but I'm not looking at that I'm looking at more concrete facts like if he's playing with his girlfriend's dad or not).

Do I think Dustin is the favorite to win? No, I'd probably give the nod to Phil Mickelson or Brandt Snedeker, but I feel like Johnson is a top-five pick without much pressure unless something insane happens.
