Injury Wrap: Jeremy Maclin out, Pierre Garcon doubtful

I was raised in a world where running backs pay the freight and quarterbacks take kill shots from pass rushers (while the wideouts mostly roam free). But thus far in 2012, it seems like there's more wideout attrition than ever before.

Let's get a jump on the Friday practice news.

• Jeremy Maclin (hip) is officially out for the Week 3 game at Arizona. He won't travel with the club. DeSean Jackson gets more attention (and perhaps more targets) with Maclin out. It will be interesting to see how the Cardinals defend Jackson: cornerback Patrick Peterson is an up-and-coming superstar, but he played a dedicated side in the New England game — don't assume he automatically trails Jackson around the field. Philly's wideout depth is unimposing, at least on paper: Damaris Johnson and Jason Avant are next in line, guys you can probably ignore in standard formats.

• Pierre Garcon (foot) is listed as doubtful for the home opener against Cincinnati. It would be a stunner if he dressed on game day. The Redskins have the cast of usual suspects to turn to — Santana Moss, Aldrick Robinson, Leonard Hankerson, Josh Morgan. Or maybe they'll try to control the game on the ground, a dash of Alfred Morris, a pinch of Robert Griffin III. Mike Shanahan isn't tipping his hand.

• Greg Jennings (groin) hasn't been practicing and he's iffy for the Monday tilt at Seattle. At least there's an extra day of rest-and-rehab time for Jennings in advance of this matchup. That said, the Seattle secondary is deep and talented; unless desperate, you probably want to rest Jennings no matter what in Week 3.

• Marques Colston (foot) had a full week of limited practice and is listed as questionable for Sunday's home match against Kansas City. Perhaps this ongoing foot problem partially explains why Colston hasn't been separating from corners over the first two weeks. The Saints have an early kickoff Sunday, so fantasy owners catch a break there.

And now, the rest of the story:

Steven Jackson (groin) sat out another session Friday, making him the dreaded game-time decision for Week 3 at Chicago. If Jackson doesn't play, Daryl Richardson looks like the starter, or at least the head of a committee.

Ryan Mathews (clavicle) had a good week of practice and should play against Atlanta, though he's tagged as questionable. Nothing is guaranteed in San Diego, of course; Antonio Gates (rib) was a surprising scratch last week. Gates, incidentally, is considered probable for Week 3, after a solid week of practice.

Jamaal Charles (knee) had a full week of practice and is listed as probable. Sounds like he's good to play at New Orleans, though you worry about what might happen to his reps if the game gets out of hand. I'm still ranking Charles as a Top 20 back. Dexter McCluster (shoulder) is listed as questionable and had a limited practice week.

Matt Forte (ankle) had officially been ruled out for Week 3, which makes Michael Bush an appealing play against the Rams.

Marshawn Lynch (back) didn't miss any reps Friday and is listed as probable. The Seahawks still have one key practice left, given that they play on Monday.

Rashard Mendenhall (knee) hopes to return in Week 5, after Pittsburgh's bye week. Jonathan Dwyer (toe) is a little nicked up, but listed as probable. He had two full practices to finish up the week.

Bernard Scott (hand) should be able to take some reps at Washington. He's listed as probable.

Mike Goodson (hamstring) and Taiwan Jones (ribs) are both listed as questionable, but Darren McFadden isn't on the injury report yet.

Trent Richardson (knee) should be able to start against Buffalo. He's listed as probable.

Daniel Thomas (post concussion) should be able to dress against the Jets, not that he's a big threat to Reggie Bush.

Rashard Jennings (knee) missed Friday's session and is listed as doubtful. Maurice Jones-Drew will be the bell cow, as usual, at Indianapolis.

Beanie Wells and Ryan Williams are both dealing with knee injuries, though they're tagged as probable. The biggest issue they face: Arizona's horrendous run-blocking line. Wells looked sluggish in the New England win, but Williams was even worse.

Roddy White (knee) and Julio Jones (thigh) are both on the injury report but as probable. Barring some sort of pregame setback, they appear fine.

Calvin Johnson (ankle) is listed as probable, a normal staple for the Lions. He had a full practice Friday.

Devery Henderson (post concussion) should be able to play against Kansas City. He's probable. While Henderson isn't a special player in any way, he can stretch the field and the Saints offense will appreciate him returning, even if he doesn't see the ball much.

Austin Collie (post concussion) had a strong week of practice and might play against Jacksonville. That could be a buzzkill to anyone who needs Donnie Avery.

Mike Wallace (groin) and Emmanuel Sanders (knee) had full practices Friday, and both players are listed as probable. They probably can't wait to take dead aim on the injury-plagued and scuffling Oakland secondary.

Brandon Lloyd (thigh) is listed as questionable and missed some reps this week. Bill Belichick chicanery, or is Lloyd really compromised here? I expect Lloyd to go, but it's a late game and a caddy would be a nice thing to have, just in case.

Randall Cobb (hamstring) had limited practice days Thursday and Friday. If he's going to to do anything at Seattle, he probably needs to show something in the Saturday workout.

Dustin Keller (hamstring) had a couple of partial days and is listed as questionable. He didn't play, you'll recall, in Week 2. He's not special enough to speculate on.

Sebastian Janikowski (groin) is listed as questionable, so let's see if the Raiders add a kicker on Saturday.

Darrelle Revis (post concussion) is listed as probable and seems ready to go at Miami. Will the Jets deem Brian Hartline significant enough for Revis Island?
