Thursday Fantasy Flier, Week 13: Richard Rodgers, for those in desperate need of TE help

Thursday Fantasy Flier, Week 13: Richard Rodgers, for those in desperate need of TE help

Lemme guess: Your fantasy team needs a replacement tight end, yeah?

Last Sunday was uncommonly rough in terms of TE injuries, as everyone surely knows by now. Jimmy Graham is done for the season (patellar tendon), Rob Gronkowski is week-to-week (knee), and, as of this writing, Tyler Eifert seems like a poor bet to play in Week 13 (stinger).

Thus, we've all been browsing the free agent pools in our leagues, looking for placeholder tight ends. If you're willing to trust Green Bay's suddenly non-elite offense on Thursday night, Team Cheese offers a potential solution to your fantasy problem...

Richard Rodgers, TE, Green Bay Packers (41 percent owned, $14 in Yahoo daily)

OK, so receiving yardage isn't necessarily his thing. That's fair to say. YAC? Um ... no. Rodgers hasn't reached 50 yards in any game this season. It's an issue. However, he's been a respectable red-zone option, snagging five touchdown receptions over his last 10 games, including a spike against Detroit in Week 10. In fact, in that prior meeting with the Lions, both of Aaron Rodgers' TD passes went to tight ends (Justin Perillo and Rodgers).

Detroit's defense has allowed the tenth most fantasy points to the tight end position so far this year, and the third most touchdowns (9). Brent Celek found the end-zone against the Lions last week, and such luminaries as Owen Daniels, Ladarius Green and Kyle Rudolph (twice) have also crossed the goal line against this team.  It's not exactly a poor match-up — sketchy player, true, but not a bad match-up.

If you just lost Gronk (as I did), and you didn't have the FAAB required to land Chandler or Rudolph (also like me), then consider Rodgers as a one-week flier.
