Thursday Fantasy Flier, Week 10: Ryan Fitzpatrick, still available everywhere

Thursday Fantasy Flier, Week 10: Ryan Fitzpatrick, still available everywhere

Generally speaking, we expect a certain level of week-to-week variance in every player's fantasy production. Ryan Fitzpatrick, however, has been a notable exception.

Fitz has been weirdly and hypnotically consistent for the Jets over the season's first half. He's thrown exactly two touchdown passes in six of his eight starts. If we disregard Week 8, when he was sidelined by an injury to his non-throwing hand, Fitzpatrick's lowest passing output in any of his last six games is 218 yards while his best is 295. Few players, regardless of position, have been as oddly predictable as Fitz. His floor and ceiling are nearly the same in any given week.

On Thursday night, Fitzpatrick will face one of his (many) former employers, the Buffalo Bills, a team that has allowed multiple passing scores six times so far this season. Rex Ryan's defense ranks near the bottom of the league in both sacks (13) and passing yards allowed (259.9 YPG), and Buffalo is middle-of-the-pack in takeaways (12). This is certainly not a D to avoid. There's no obvious reason to think Fitzpatrick won't produce his usual useful numbers. He's still the guy who gets to throw to Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker, receivers who currently rank No. 10 and No. 15 at the position in standard fantasy points per game.

And yet for whatever reason, Fitzpatrick is only 23 percent owned in Yahoo leagues and 12 percent started. No one's buying — even with Luck, Ryan, Rivers, Romo and possibly Roethlisberger unavailable this week.

It can't be the thumb issue that's worrying you, because Fitzpatrick put up his typical 272 yards and two scores in Week 9, playing with a protective glove on his left hand. Maybe you just can't shake the memories of the '09 version of Fitz, a reckless passer who threw as many picks as TDs. Or maybe, like Rex, you simply have an irrational anti-beard bias...

Bottom line, Fitz is a bankable fantasy asset in a non-threatening match-up, and he's widely available in Yahoo leagues. He's among the cheaper QB options in our daily game ($35), too. I'm starting him in three spots this week — one is a two-QB league, the others are standard formats — so this isn't a situation in which I'm recommending a guy I wouldn't use myself.

I'm buying the beard. If you need a forecast, put me down for, say, 266 yards, two passing TDs, one pick and 19 rushing yards.
