Saints and Falcons combine for 71 points, so much fantasy goodness

OK, so not every NFL game was an offensive clinic in Week 1. The Chiefs and Rams and Raiders were, um ... regrettable. And nobody needs to see Joe Flacco throw 62 passes ever again. And Tony Romo has been exceptionally not-good.

But thankfully, Atlanta and New Orleans delivered an all-you-can-eat fantasy feast. The NFC South rivals combed for 71 points and 1,040 total yards, with the Falcons winning 37-34 in OT. Matt Ryan was just obscenely good, going 31-for-43 with three touchdown passes and no picks, finishing with a franchise-record 448 yards.

Ryan, not surprisingly, is the leader in the clubhouse in terms of fantasy scoring at the moment, and it's gonna take a ridiculous performance to knock him from the top spot. Atlanta's offense was an irresistible force on Sunday, in all phases. Julio Jones finished with 116 receiving yards, while Roddy White delivered 72 with a 2-yard score. Four different running backs made highlight plays, combining for 123 yards on the ground. Jacquizz Rodgers gave us a leading play of the day candidate, spinning to shake various Saints on a late 17-yard score. And kicker Matt Bryant drilled a pair of 50-plus yard field goals, plus another from 40.

Basically, no matter which Falcons you rolled with on Sunday (with the possible exception of Steven Jackson), you're probably feeling good (and really, S-Jax wasn't so bad).

In a losing effort, Drew Brees threw for 333 and one score, and his Saints piled up 34 points and 472 total yards. All the usual receiving suspects did the usual damage for New Orleans — Jimmy Graham went 8-for-82, Marques Colston 5-for-110, Pierre Thomas 6-for-58 — and rookie Brandin Cooks was an unholy terror. A blur. He's an unfair addition to that offense. Cooks finished with seven catches, 95 scrimmage yards and a score, doing most of his damage in the first half.

Most of the key skill players for both the Saints and Falcons were drafted in leagues of standard size, but we should note that Mark Ingram is on the wire in 46 percent of the Yahoo universe. Ingram was the subject of low-level preseason buzz, and he impressed in the opener, carrying 13 times for 60 yards and a pair of TDs. That dude flattened Atlanta defenders, generally running as the preferred early-down back. Next week, he'll face a Cleveland defense that was punished by Le'Veon Bell on Sunday. If Ingram is available to you, make the move.
