Hi, we’re the replacements: Five fill-in receivers to add and play in Week 5

This was always going to be a brutal fantasy week at receiver, because a pile of useful wideouts have byes, including Calvin Johnson, Vincent Jackson, Miles Austin, and Dez Bry—

Well, OK, Dez owners will probably welcome the one-week break. But those other three dudes are gonna be missed.

The fantasy community also learned recently that we'll have to manage around the absences of Hakeem Nicks (knee), Greg Jennings (groin), Lance Moore (hamstring) and Santonio Holmes (foot, IR). Plus we'll have to fret about the status of Kenny Britt (ankle), too. So we're dealing with a lot of issues at receiver, a position that was supposed to be crazy deep.

Thus, today we're going to review a few replacement options at wideout, focusing on the teams that have been hit by the biggest injuries. (But we won't discuss the Jets again, because their matchup is terrible and I do not want another Chaz Schilens endorsement on my permanent record). Let's begin with the guy pictured up top...

James Jones, Green Bay (61 percent owned) - There's a perfect storm of fantasy potential forming for Jones this week, with Jennings sidelined. The Pack travels to Indianapolis, where they'll face a battered Colts defense (no Vontae Davis, no Pat Angerer, no Justin King, Dwight Freeney a GTD). I'm starting Jones in a pair of leagues, and I've slotted him at No. 22 in my Week 5 receiver ranks. He's coming off a respectable game (5-56-2), on pace for the best season of his career.

Obviously if we like Jones this week, then we also like this guy...

Randall Cobb, Green Bay (63 percent) - Cobb's usage has been up and down so far this year — eight targets in Week 4, two the prior week — but, again, Jennings' injury should lead to opportunities. He hauled in seven balls for 66 yards in the home win over the Saints, and he should be a match-up nightmare for a depleted Indy D.

I like him well enough this Sunday. But if we're looking only at single-serving adds, I'd prefer to pluck this name from the FA pool...

Domenik Hixon, NY Giants (41 percent) - With Nicks sidelined by his usual medley of injuries and Ramses Barden concussed, Hixon will likely be peppered with targets in his matchup with Cleveland. The Browns currently rank No. 28 in pass defense, allowing 286.0 yards per game through the air. This isn't the week to sit your Giants. Hixon had a terrific game at Philly in Week 4, you'll recall, catching six passes for 114 yards. Like Jones, Hixon has found his way into my top-25 wideouts this week.

Kendall Wright, Tennessee (32 percent) - The rookie still hasn't really delivered a breakout game, yet he does have a pair of garbage-time TDs to his credit, and he leads his team in both catches (18) and targets (33). In fact, Wright leads all first-year receivers in those categories. If Britt can't go this week — and right now, it's not looking good for Kenny — then Wright should deliver another solid fantasy line.

Devery Henderson, New Orleans (3 percent) - This is, of course, a true Hail Mary. But Moore has been ruled out, so there's an opportunity for Henderson to see a few targets and play plenty of snaps on Sunday night. You guys all know the story with Devery: He might give us three catches for 88 yards and two TDs, or he might give us one catch for 18, dropping an easy score. Moore and Henderson don't exactly fill the same role for New Orleans, so it's a guessing game. Devery is merely a swing-for-the-fences pick. Note that it was Joseph Morgan, not Devery, who caught the long bomb in Week 4.
