Daily Dime: Prince, Thor, plus various Mets and Murphys

Nine games on the Thursday schedule, but plenty of appealing deals. Please review the weather reports and check MLB lineups before committing to a lineup, you guys. Let's be responsible out there.

Prince Fielder, 1B, at Min (Santana), $17: Prince is rolling right now, with seven hits over his last four games, and he's pretty much owned Santana in the past: 6-for-16, 3 HR. He's not the only Texas hitter with a respectable track record against success against Ervin, just for the record. If Mike Napoli sneaks into the lineup (7-for-16, 3 doubles, 3 HR), please consider him.

Noah Syndergaard, P, vs. Col (Butler), $50: The Mets are a huge favorite here (-250), and Syndergaard is opposed by a starter with a 1.81 WHIP. This feels like a layup, a rare case where a $50 price tag is a gift. Syndergaard was roughed up a bit in his last outing (though he still K'd six), but that ended a streak of seven straight starts in which he'd yielded two runs or less.

Daniel Murphy, 2B, vs. Col (Butler), $16: Here's the key stat regarding Colorado starter Eddie Butler (the dude with the 1.81 WHIP): left-handed batters are slashing .342/.452/.582 against him. That's kind of ridiculous. He's allowed 21 extra-base hits and 28 walks to LHBs, while racking up only 17 Ks. Thus, Murphy seems like an obvious play.

Jhonny Peralta, SS, vs. Pit (Liriano), $15: Peralta has had plenty of success against Liriano over the years, over a non-trivial number of plate appearances. Check the totals: 17-for-51, four HR, 11 BB, 1.040 OPS. Jhonny has also reached base four times in his last two games, so it's not as if he's struggling mightily. At a friendly price, I'm on board.

Mark Buehrle, P, vs. Oak (Gray), $25: Buehrle is available at a minimum price, his team never loses, and he hasn't allowed more than three earned runs in a start since May. Sign me up. Pair him with one of Thursday's luxury starters and you'll still have a huge budget available for bats.

Curtis Granderson, OF, vs. Col (Butler), $18: In case you somehow missed it, please go check the note above in the Daniel Murphy blurb. Here's a fun series of notes about Eddie Butler, via our friends at Inside Edge:

Opponents have a .937 OPS (350 PA) against Eddie Butler this season. (MLB rank: 134th of 134 qualified SP)

And this...

Hitters have hit 15 line drives out of 43 balls in play (34.9% Line Drive Pct) against Eddie Butler on changeups this season. (MLB rank: this is the highest in all of MLB of 95 qualified SP)

And this...

7 of the 34 fly balls (20.6%) against lefties against Eddie Butler in the 2015 season have been home runs. (League Avg: 11.4%)

Good grief. Let's hope you're convinced.

Jon Lester, P, vs. Mil (Cravy), $56: These are Lester's numbers since the calendar flipped to July: 50.1 IP, 53 K, 7 BB, 1.79 ERA, 0.81 WHIP. On Thursday, he's facing Tyler Cravy and the last-place Brewers. The Cubs, not surprisingly, are an overwhelming favorite (-230).

Neil Walker, 2B, at STL (Lynn), $16: All 11 of Walker's home runs this season have come against right-handers, plus he's 13-for-37 in his career against Lynn with seven XBHs (3 HR) and six walks. Thus, he is fully approved for use on Thursday.

Yadier Molina, C, vs. Pit (Liriano), $12: No, it's not the best possible matchup, but he's coming off a wonderful game and he's available at such an appealing price. Here's a chance to go cheap at catcher while also starting a competent bat.

David Murphy, OF, at KC (Guthrie), $12: Left-handed humans are slashing .332/.393/.542 against Guthrie this season, with 16 doubles, 13 homers, 49 RBIs and 24 walks. Murphy was made for this matchup.
