Daily Dime: Looking at Dallas Keuchel and searching for hitting bargains

Here are 10 DFS recommendations for Saturday but be sure to double-check the weather and lineups before first pitch approaches.

Dallas Keuchel, SP, vs. CWS (Quintana), $9400 at FanDuel: He’s the most expensive pitcher on FD during Saturday’s slate, but it’s not as high as usual. Keuchel’s K rate (6.07) isn’t exactly great, and his BABIP (.222) sure looks likely to regress, but his soft contact% (26.2) ranks third best in all of baseball. Houston is the biggest favorite on the board Saturday, thanks in part to the White Sox having an MLB-low .552 OPS when facing left handers (the next worse is .587).

Carlos Ruiz, C, vs. Col (De La Rosa), $2400: He’s batting .438/.471/.625 against lefties this season and owns a career 1.370 OPS over 11 at bats versus Jorge De La Rosa. Seems like a decent target at this price.

Evan Longoria, 3B, at Bal (Chen), $3300: He’s now up to a .371/.500/.571 line against southpaws on the year and sports a .438 OBP over 26 career ABs against Wei-Yin Chen. Longoria is tied for the No. 10 most expensive third basemen.

Brandon Crawford, SS, vs. Atl (Perez), $2900: It’s likely Crawford’s start is something of a fluke, but his 145 wRC+ leads every shortstop in baseball, and he’s facing someone who’s pitched a total of 13.1 innings in his career while at a decent price.

Robinson Cano, 2B, vs. Cle (Marcum), $2600: Be sure to check his status since he’s missed the last two games with an illness, but this price is tough to turn down given Cano’s track record, even if he’s been a huge disappointment so far.

Jose Altuve, 2B, vs. CWS (Quintana), $3800: If you want to spend your money elsewhere at second base without going cheap, do it on Altuve, who has a .407/.484/.537 line against southpaws.

Ryan Raburn, OF, at Sea (Elias), $2300: He has a .349/.408/.603 line against lefties this season, hits in the middle of Cleveland’s lineup against them and is priced nearly as cheap as it gets.

Adam Lind, 1B, vs. Ari (Hellickson), $2400: He has seven homers versus right handers this season to go along with a .987 OPS at home. Jeremy Hellickson has surrendered a .357 BAA left-handed hitters with a 2.28 WHIP, so this seems like a good bargain.

Nick Markakis, OF, at SF (Lincecum), $2500: He has a .418 OBP against right-handed pitchers this season, and while possessing little power, that’s pretty impressive for someone so cheap.

Bryce Harper, OF, at Cin (Iglesias), $6000: Enough of the bargains, as Harper can be afforded here if you follow the rest of the above options. Haters will say his current .351/.475/.838 line with 16 homers over 111 at bats against righties will regress, and while that may very well be true despite my trepidation, he will be hitting Saturday against a pitcher with 19.0 career MLB innings in a park that’s allowed 52 percent more homers versus LHB over the past three seasons, which is an MLB high.
