Daily Dime: Goldschmidt, David Peralta, Adam Jones, various Phillies LHBs

Only seven games on the Monday schedule, you guys, so the player pool isn't quite as rich as usual. Let's get to work. As always, please review the weather reports and check MLB lineups before committing to players.

Paul Goldschmidt, 1B, vs. Phi (Harang), $19: Well, duh. Goldschmidt at less than $20 is a gift. Don't waste it. You probably won't be surprised to learn that Goldschmidt has crushed Harang in prior meetings: 6-for-15, 2 doubles, 2 HR, 5 RBIs, 6 BB. He's also coming off a 3-for-4, two-double performance on Sunday, emerging from a mini-slump. No reason to avoid him here.

Adam Jones, OF, at Sea (Nuno), $16: Jones is basically doing the usual Jones things this year, but with fewer steals. He's been terrific against left-handed pitching (.313/.356/.530), plus he has an encouraging-if-limited history against Nuno (2-for-4, double, HR, BB). I woulda been willing to go to $18, Yahoo pricing algorithm ... maybe $19.

Matt Shoemaker, P, at CWS (Sale), $25: Clearly this is a degree-of-difficulty matchup for Shoemaker, facing Chris Sale. But Sale has actually been rocked in back-to-back starts (10.1 IP, 18 H, 14 R) while Shoemaker has tossed 19.0 scoreless frames in his last three, striking out 27. It's weird to see him available at a minimum price. Shoemaker has held opposing batters to a .156 slugging percentage over the past month, per our friends at Inside Edge. So that's ridiculous. And the Sox are the lowest-scoring team in the A.L., just for the record.

Wei-Yin Chen, P, at Sea (Nuno), $25: Here's another minimum-price pitcher with excellent ratios (3.32 ERA, 1.19 WHIP), facing a team that struggles to score. Seattle ranks last in the league in team batting average and next-to-last in OBP. Robinson Cano is the only current member of the Mariners who's homered off Chen, and his career slash against the O's lefty is nothing special (.250/.323/.393).

Welington Castillo, C, vs. Phi (Harang), $15: Castillo is on a power surge, with 36 total bases over 37 at-bats in the past two weeks. He had a day off on Sunday, so he should be good to go against Harang. This isn't the cheapest price you'll ever find on a catcher, but with so many pitching bargains on the board on Monday, you'll find room.

Jonathan Schoop, 2B, at Sea (Nuno), $13: He's cheap and he's on a crazy tear at the plate, going 14-for-28 so far this month with five XBHs. Schoop has actually been a bit better against RHPs than LHPs to this point in his young career, so I suppose that's a point in Nuno's favor. But we're talking about such an underwhelming, soft-tossing starter. I'm choosing to roll with the streaking hitter.

Odubel Herrera, OF, at Ari (De La Rosa), $14: Herrera is on fire this month, slashing .400/.432/.600 with two homers, two steals and four multi-hit games. Rubby De La Rosa has been absolutely mauled by left-handed batters this year, somehow allowing 17 homers and a .932 OPS over 259 at-bats. Thus, it should be a decent day to start this dude...

Ryan Howard, 1B, at Ari (De La Rosa), $17: It's obviously not an ideal price for a .235/.285/.453 batter, but, as all of you know, Howard pretty much does all his hitting against RHPs (16 of 19 HRs, .509 SLG). Considering his history against right-handed pitching and Rubby's inability to keep left-handed hitters in the park, this seems like a nice option.

Eugenio Suarez, SS, at SD (Kennedy), $13: Kennedy's solid performance in June and July returned his season fantasy ratios to respectable levels, but he's certainly not the sort of pitcher anyone needs to avoid. He's allowed at least one home run in each of his last 10 appearances. Suarez, of course, hasn't stopped hitting. He's batting .305 for the season with an .806 OPS, plus he's hit safely in every game this month (with six XBHs included). An attractive price, considering the quality of the player and the not-so-intimidating matchup.

David Peralta, OF, vs. Phi (Harang), $11: Let's take one final whack at Harang, OK? He's allowed at least four earned runs in seven of his last eight starts, so he's not exactly the strongest candidate to put up a string of zeroes at Arizona. Peralta is coming off a 5-for-5 performance on Sunday, and he's had little trouble with Harang to this point in his career (3-for-7, HR, no Ks). At $11, he's a DFS doorbuster deal.
