Royals on Centre Court – and Eugenie Bouchard is on Court 1!

WIMBLEDON – These are what you call "first world problems."

Canadian Eugenie Bouchard, named after Princess Eugenie of York, daughter of Prince Edward and Sarah Ferguson, got a Court 1 assignment for her quarter-final match against No. 9 seed Angelique Kerber of Germany Wednesday.

It was a 50-50 shot; with only two women's quarter-finals on the schedule, both a day later than the intended order because of earlier rain delays, No. 3 Simona Halep got the Centre Court slot. There's little doubt that had Sharapova won Tuesday over Kerber, the two high-profile blondes in women's tennis would have gotten the big court.

Now, why does this matter? It's not because they're worried about rain and needing to close the Centre Court roof. And Court 1 is a lovely court.

The reason is ...

ROYALS IN THE HOUSE!

Bouchard's namesake isn't on the guest list today. But the namesake of her twin Beatrice (Princess Eugenie's sister) will be on hand.

And ... Prince William and Kate, a.k.a the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. As we all know by now, Bouchard's brother Will is named after Prince William.

Royalist mom Julie Bouchard must be crushed. :-) Hopefully the Bouchards will have a chance to meet the Royals, up on the balcony at tea time or something.

It's time for the agents to work overtime to make that photo-op happen – if one can do such things where royals are concerned, tut, tut.
