Rio 2016: What to watch, Day 6 (August 11th)

Hey, man. You see Matthew McConaughey sittin' in the crowd for the swimmin' on Wednesday night? I was shocked that he didn't rip his shirt off and go for a strut along the deck. Was positive, absolutely positive that he wouldn't be able to hold back. Jus' goes to show, man. Life confounds and amazes, bro. Confounds and amazes.

Day 6 (Thursday August 11):

Speaking of amazing, Canada's Penny Oleksiak will swim in the final of the 100 metre freestyle after a superb Wednesday night. She anchored Canada to bronze in the 4 x 200 metre freestyle relay shortly after she qualified for the 100 final with the second-fastest time in the semi's, 1/100th of a second behind Australia's Cate Campbell. Can Canada's darling of the games win a fourth medal? Can she add gold to her silver and two bronze? Medal swims, including Oleksiak's bid for gold, begin at 9 pm ET, on CBC. There are also swim heats in other events earlier in the day, at noon ET, also on CBC.

Fore! Golf returns the the Olympics for the first time since the 1904 games in St. Louis. Canadian George Lyon won the title that year and so Graham DeLaet and David Hearn have the pressure of not wanting to be the ones who ended a streak after 112 years. No one else played in the interim? Asterisk, shmasterisk. DeLaet tees off at 6:30 am ET, Hearn goes at 8:25 am ET. TSN2. They've got capybaras on that course, you know. Know what a capybara is? Like a giant rodent. I mean giant. They grow to two feet tall and weigh about 145 pounds. And they roam free on the course. They hit the ball a ton for their size. Can't putt to save their lives though. Because of this, not a medal threat.

With the rain on Wednesday, Daniel Nestor and Vasek Pospisil had their tennis doubles semi-final against Spain's Rafael Nadal and Marc Lopez postponed and moved to Day 6. While I was waiting through their delay on Wednesday, I whiled away the time trying to come up with one name for Nestor and Pospisil. Best I could come up with: Dansek Nestpisil. I'm also fond of Vasiel Pospistor. Weather forecast for Rio is for sunny skies so things ought to get back to normal on the courts. Estimated time for this match is still not available at time of posting, but check back here Thursday morning and I'll have an update on time and station.

There is a lot of rowing to be done on Day 6. The bad weather forced postponement of events, again, on Wednesday so we'll see semi-final events, repechages (do - overs for the uninitiated) and six medal events. CBC, 7:30 am ET.

The Canadian men's volleyball team looks to rebound after dropping its match against top-ranked Brazil a couple of nights before. They'll meet France at 4 pm ET, on TSN.

The table tennis medal games go on Thursday night, beginning at 7:30 ET, on TSN2. C'mon, man. TSN2? Who gets TSN2?  TSN1, 3, 4 and 5, sure. But 2? Put table tennis on CBC so we can see it in all its glorious, frenetic splendour. And have Bob Cole call it. That'd be something.

Bonus programming: Michael Phelps will attempt to use his laser stare to shock the green water at the diving venue back to its original blue. All-day coverage on his Snapchat page.

NOTE: The schedule can change and so can the channel. I'll provide an updated link on those changes when I receive them, so come on back a little later.
