Day 11 (August 16th):

One of the big events of the day where Canada is concerned - other than getting a really good regular coffee and breakfast sandwich to start the day - is women's soccer. Canada looks to earn a berth in the finals when they take on Germany, a team they beat in round-robin play last week, by a score of 2-1. That was the first time in 13 attempts, over 22 years, that the Canadians had actually beaten them. Now, if they can do it for a second time in a week, a silver medal would be assured. Captain Canada, Christine Sinclair, did not play against Germany last week nor did a few other regulars for the team. That can be said for the Germans as well, so each side will be fortified for this game which begins at 3 pm ET, on CBC, right after the other semi-final between Sweden and Brazil. That will go at noon ET, also on CBC.

Another biggie and possible gold for Canada: Corunna, Ontario's Derek Drouin is flying high at these Olympics and that was to be expected. The 2015 world champion high jumper is into the finals after nailing all four of his jumps - the last was 2.29 metres - in qualification over the weekend. Drouin won Olympic bronze in London in 2012 and has been getting better ever since, including gold at last year's Pan Am Games. He makes his bid for the podium on Day 11 as the men's high jump final is scheduled for 7:30 pm ET, on CBC.

The heats for the men's 200 metres go on Day 11 and if you thought Usain Bolt was having fun in the lead up to and the aftermath of his 100 metres gold on Sunday night, get ready for him to laugh all the way to the semi's here. As good as Bolt is in the 100, it's the 200 that's really his specialty and he is on the march towards possibly becoming the first man to win the 100 and 200 at three consecutive Olympic Games. Canada's bronze medallist in the hundred - and by all appearances Bolt's new buddy - Andre De Grasse is in this field as well. There are ten heats scheduled beginning at 10:50 am ET, on TSN. De Grasse runs in heat ten, Bolt runs in heat nine.

The Canadian women's basketball team has a quarter-final match against France at 9:15 pm ET, on TSN. Canada looks to rebound after two straight losses, being blasted by the U.S. on Friday by a score of 81-51 and then falling to Spain, 73-60, in their final game of the round-robin on Sunday. Two other quarters are also on TSN; Spain vs Turkey at 1:30 pm ET and the U.S. vs Japan at 5:45 pm ET.

Philippe Gagne, of Montreal, takes on the field in the men's three metre springboard diving competition. Sportsnet, 9 am ET.
