Radio commentator sounds off on Olympic ice dance

Sid Seixeiro, co-host of Sportsnet's popular radio show Tim and Sid wasted little time in voicing his opinion on Olympic ice dancing.

Fresh off viewing the controversial final results of Monday's free skate in which Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir were dethroned by Meryl Davis and Charlie White – their American archrivals in the sport – Seixeiro unloaded on corruption in ice dancing.

Seixeiro brings up some interesting points in his argument including the fact that there was a report released last week in French sports publication L'Equipe which stated there was collusion between the Russians and Americans to rig the team figure skating and ice dancing results to their own benefit.

Moreover, he cites the tweets of Finnish figure skater/ice dancer Petri Kokko who thought that Virtue and Moir had preformed the "Finnstep", a component of the short dance that he invented, better than White and Davis and should have finished ahead of them.

While Seixeiro taps into the feelings that many, especially Canadians, have about what transpired, it should be noted that there certainly are proponents of the final result who think things shook down just fine.

"In the end, there was no question. There would be no judging controversy, no argument. As they whirled around entwined, never separated by more than two arms’ lengths, they finally achieved what they’d been looking for. In a competition in which the difference between the medalists can be imperceptible, Davis and White were visibly, perceptibly great. They had made it look easy."

Regardless of what side of the fence you are on, Seixeiro's impassioned and informed diatribe is worth a listen for anyone that is tired of corruption in sport.
