Is Paulina Gretzky dating Dustin Johnson?

Paulina Gretzky has made headlines this week and for once it has nothing to do with provocative Twitter photos. The 24-year-old daughter of the Great One was spotted in Hawaii following around PGA Tour golfer Dustin Johnson who was opening his season at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions.

And Gretzky appeared to be a goodluck charm for the 28-year-old Johnson who went onto win the tournament in Kapalua with a four-shot victory over Steve Stricker.

Neither Gretzky orJohnson have revealed the details of their “relationship” though they were seen spending plenty of time together away from the course as well.

Over the last couple of years Gretzky has become best known for the rather revealing photos she’s posted of herself on Twitter which have done a number on her reputation as an aspiring vocal artist and put her father Wayne into the spotlight for all the wrong reasons.

But in what seems to be an attempt at a public and social makeover, Gretzky sat down with Citytv for a one-on-one interview and is the cover girl of the latest issue of Flare magazine where she explains her side of the Twitter scandal among other things like what it was like growing up with a superstar hockey player for a father.

Scott Henderson a professor in the communications department at Brock University specifically teaching about pop culture and film told the Toronto Star Monday:

If Paulina Gretzky were any other “celebrity” living in Hollywood showing herself off – literally – on Twitter her story likely wouldn’t be as intriguing to non-pop culture buffs. But because she’s Wayne’s daughter what she’s up to seems to grab the attention of a demographic of Canadian sports fans who maybe didn’t grow up watching her father play, but grew up idolizing him either way.

And her dad had a sparkling reputation really only attracting negative attention to himself when he was traded from Edmonton to Los Angeles in the summer on 1988. At the time some felt the move to L.A. was a scheme and he really only had his wife’s acting career in mind.

The Gretzky name is undoubtedly one of the most, if not the most recognizable name in Canada and whether Paulina is using her family’s otherwise impressive reputation to help reinvent herself or just using it to attract attention to her music career remains to be seen.
