For a play that encompassses the sheer, unadulterated joy that is Canadian university sport — the while thrill-of-victory, agony-of-defeat deal — it's hard to outdo the Mount Allison Mounties' winning touchdown last Saturday against rival St. Francis Xavier.

The Mounties drove for two touchdowns in the final three minutes 50 seconds to steal a 27-25 win from St. FX, going ahead on an absolutely Favre-ulous pass from Brandon Leyh to Josh Blanchard with 49 seconds left in the game. As the play started, Leyh had wide receiver Rodreke Joseph open down the middle of the field on a post route, but had to concern himself with shaking off two tackles in the backfield. Scrambling to buy time, resetting himself, the Mounties quarterback then threw a dart to Blanchard, whose end zone catch sparked euphoria along the Mounties sideline.

Cancel my appointments. I am just going to watch this all day. There is an only-in-CIS moment for you.

Those 40 seconds, of course, don't fill in all the build-up to that finish. The host X-Men, staked to a 25-13 lead by three Tivon Cook-to-Randy Roseway touchdown passes, were sitting pretty when they punted down to Mount A's 16-yard line with 3:50 left at Oland Stadium. First Leyh drove the Mounties nearly the full length of the field (94 yards) to score, converting three third-down plays where a failure would have sealed their defeat.

That possession probably chewed up more time than Mount A would have preferred. There was only 1:04 left when Blanchard scored to cut the lead to 25-20. The Mounties, though, recovered the desperate onside kickoff — a play that historically works fewer than one time in 10 — at St. FX's 45-yard line.

Two plays later, some magic happened. The win kept the 2-0 Mounties in sole possession of first place in the Atlantic conference.
