London 2012 Olympics: Milos Raonic looks for redemption at the All England Club

Canadian Milos Raonic will have not one, but two chances to redeem himself at the All England Club in the coming weeks.

Raonic debuted at Wimbledon a year ago and his powerful serve paid dividends on the grass court as he disposed his first round opponent Marc Gicquelin in three-straight sets and served up 25 aces. Yet he was forced to retire from his second-round match after suffering a hip injury.

With Wimbledon just under two weeks away and the London Olympics following, Raonic has the chance to redeem himself at one of tennis's four Grand Slam tournaments. The 22-year-old-star-in-waiting will then have the opportunity to leave his mark on the grass court again as the Canadian male singles nominee for London.

Tennis Canada announced Wednesday that Raonic, along with Aleksandra Wozniak, Daniel Nestor and Vasek Pospisil ,will represent Canada in London. Wozniak (Blainville, Que.,), ranked No. 56 in the world, will be Canada's women's singles representative and the team of Nestor (Toronto, Ont.,) and Pospisil (Vernon, B.C.,) will lead Canada in doubles.

"Ever since I came back after my health issues, I always said that my main goal was to play in the Olympics," Wozniak said in a media release. "After a difficult few months last year, I'm proud to have gotten my ranking back and positioned myself to have a shot at playing in the Olympics. It would be an honour for me to represent Canada and if that were to happen, it would be for me a second dream come true."

Raonic and Wozniak are Canada's top-ranked male and female singles players and Nestor is the ATP top-ranked men's doubles player along with partner Max Mirnyi of Belarus. In a way, the London Games represent an opportunity for Nestor as well. After winning gold at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney alongside partner Sebastien Lareau, Nestor failed to medal at either of the Athens or Beijing games.

While some were surprised when it was announced in late May that Nestor had chosen to partner with Pospisil, Raonic's competition in the singles may have limited his ability to commit to Nestor and the doubles team.

Nestor said to the CBC:

"I'm very proud to be in a position where I can represent my country and hopefully bring back another medal. It was quite a special feat winning Olympic gold in Sydney in 2000 and with the growth of tennis in our country; we all can have a chance to make Canada proud."
